About SGSC

FOKE is a member of Save Greater Sydney Coalition (SGSC).

SGSC was formed in response to the Minns Labor Government’s proposed planning reforms for low and mid rise housing in Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Lower Hunter, Greater Newcastle, and Illawarra Shoalhaven regions (the Six Cities Regions) AND the Transport Oriented Development (TOD) SEPP’s – that has been described as the biggest rezoning of Sydney in its history with fears that it will have devastating consequences for our city.

SGSC is not against development.  It argues for strategically located, large scale government investment in public housing.  The NSW Government is only asking for 2% affordable housing in the TOD SEPP. This means 98% of the new housing will be unaffordable!

Where is the provision for affordable/public housing, equity, heritage, green space, biodiversity and appropriate infrastructure?

There are real threats that any existing affordable housing is being bought by developers and turned into luxury accommodation.  Potts Point in Sydney one example.  No one seems to be addressing other key drivers of housing crisis – negative gearing and other tax concessions, airbnb, increased population growth, foreign ownership and developers land banking.

SGSC is putting on this Parliamentary Forum to elevate the discussion and challenge the one-size fits all developer driven rezoning changes.
