DEICORP

Deicorp committed to working with government to boost supply of affordable housing

Deicorp reiterated its commitment to supporting the Federal and NSW Governments’ plans to boost the supply of affordable housing when it recently co-hosted a visit by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Housing Minister Julie Collins and Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers at one of its construction projects.

At the site of the 397 dwelling Build to Rent project Deicorp is delivering with AXA IM Alts and St George Community Housing (SGCH) in Westmead, Deicorp Chairman Fouad Deiri OAM said: “This is part of our commitment to working with government and boosting the supply of affordable housing.”

“We are proud to be helping deliver this landmark Build to Rent project in a prime location in the Westmead Health Precinct that will provide housing for many frontline workers and their families,” said Mr Deiri.

The Westmead project, part-funded by a $150 million loan from Housing Australia, will house more than 1,000 people. Fifty per cent of the units will be allocated for low- and moderate-income earners and essential workers including teachers, emergency service workers, and healthcare workers.

Housing Minister Julie Collins said: “What this shows is when we work in partnership, we can get projects like this up and running. It is only by working together and having partnerships with the sector, with industry and with other tiers of government that we are going to be able to build the 1.2 million homes that are Australia needs.”

The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: “What this shows is when we work in partnership, we can get projects like this up and running. It is only by working together and having partnerships with the sector, with industry and with other tiers of government that we are going to be able to build the 1.2 million homes that are Australia needs from the 1 July.”

The Westmead project builds on Deicorp’s strong track record of delivering affordable housing.

Deicorp currently has a pipeline of over 830 affordable housing dwellings across developments including Tallawong, Castle Hill, Westmead and Crows Nest.

Among some of Deicorp’s other social housing projects in recent years include the award-winning Pemulwuy Project in Redfern in partnership with the Aboriginal Housing Company.

DEICORP’S FOUNDER ANNOUNCED AS URBAN TASKFORCE PROPERTY PERSON OF THE YEAR!

In October 2023, the Executive Committee of the peak industry association, the Urban Taskforce Australia, announced that Deicorp’s founder and chairman Fouad Deiri OAM had been selected as their 2023 Property Person of the Year.

The award recognises an industry leader who has been nominated and supported by their property, construction and development industry peers for their leadership and achievements.

The Taskforce’s Chief Executive Tom Forrest said Mr Deiri’s award recognised his outstanding contribution to the industry over more than 2 decades.

“Fouad is the epitome of success in our sector, having grown up in the western suburbs of Sydney where he completed his carpentry apprenticeship before establishing his own construction company and building one of the largest construction businesses in the country.” Mr Forrest said.

The founding Director and Hon Secretary Treasurer of the Urban Taskforce, David Tanevski, said “Fouad Deiri and his team at Deicorp have been relentless builders and highly successful developers of mixed-use residential communities around transport nodes for decades.

“Fouad Deiri never stopped building during and after Covid. When things got tough for our sector, with interest rates and construction costs going up, Fouad Deiri backed himself and his team to continue to produce the housing Sydney so desperately needs.

“For this, Fouad Deiri has been a stand-out industry leader and entrepreneur, delivering thousands of apartments over the years while providing secure jobs for thousands of trades people as well”, Mr Tanevski said.

Long before government started speaking of the need for affordable housing, Fouad Deiri and Deicorp established a strong working relationship with the Aboriginal Housing Company to help them realise their vision for the Pemulwuy project in Redfern, delivering 62 affordable housing dwellings for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders together with childcare, sporting facilities and Indigenous art gallery.

In 2020, Mr Deiri established Deicorp Community, a philanthropic and charitable program that contributes to initiatives aimed at building stronger communities.

Through Deicorp Community, Fouad supports organisations like PCYC to deliver programs for at-risk youth and sponsors the work of well-respected organisations like Northwest Community Services and Hills Community Aid, helping them deliver community transport for the elderly and disabled, homework help programs for students and financial support for those in need.

The Property Person of the Year award will be presented to Fouad Deiri OAM at a celebratory fundraising charity dinner on 15th November, an opportunity to raise funds for two important charities: the Warrah Society which offers quality support for adults and children with disability in Sydney’s Northwest; and St Vincent’s Prostate Cancer Centre.

Mr Fouad Deiri OAM said “it is a great honour to be named Urban Taskforce Property Person of the Year and a pleasure to support both Warrah Society and St Vincent’s Prostate Cancer Centre.”
